Government
Welcome to Miami-Dade County
As I complete my first 100 days in office, I am proud of the progress we are making and pleased to give the residents an update on my Administration’s activities and goals. I am committed to bringing about real change in order to help our County reach its full potential.

As we look to the future, one of the most important challenges ahead is improving our transportation system. We must ensure that we protect the integrity of the People’s Transportation Plan and deliver what we promised the voters. A comprehensive transit system review is also underway to evaluate the transportation needs of today and the future.

I am supporting a strong Citizens Advisory Committee to monitor implementation of the $2.9 billion “Building Better Communities” bond program. We must prioritize the ambitious slate of projects outlined and guarantee the money is spent efficiently.

We are seeking to streamline the permitting process. Too often, the permitting process stymies development and causes construction delays and cost overruns. An action plan has been outlined for making improvements to this system.

I am launching an Elder Wellness Initiative to foster healthy lifestyles and reduce the risk of disease among our elderly. Over the next two years, with the help of public-private partnerships, we will be holding a series of activities geared specifically to our County’s seniors.

My office is working to form a task force made up of criminal justice experts, mental-health advocates and others to study the best ways to improve the lives of the mentally ill.

Other issues my Administration is focusing on include responsible land use decisions, improving our public health system, confronting construction challenges at Miami International Airport, enhancing security at the Port of Miami, becoming the permanent Secretariat of the Free Trade Area of the Americas, supporting the opening of the Performing Arts Center and ensuring the Florida Marlins remain in Miami-Dade County.

This is an ambitious agenda, but I look forward to the challenges ahead.

I encourage you to visit www.miamidade.gov often. Here you will learn what my administration is doing to make our community strong and prosperous.
